Culminating Recital
𝟰𝟵𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻, 𝗕𝗔𝗦𝗜𝗖 𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗞𝗦𝗛𝗢𝗣 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗔𝗥𝗧𝗦 (𝗕𝗪𝗣𝗔)

Leaking roof, rusty torn gutters, flooded floors, a steamy hall of makeshift platforms, frames, and benches for audiences. The recital had to be postponed the day after because rains drenched portions of the concrete floor making performance impossible.

However, this afternoon’s recital, audience mesmerized by such talents from performance “tykes,” showcased a fiery youthful creativity unleashed by the apprentices who will soon form part of the company’s productions. All IPAG artists undergo strict, methodical training before becoming “Resident.”

Training in such dilapidated conditions have been the nurturing ground of a company in the last 48 years, yet evolving to mesmerize thousands in iconic theaters – CCP, Luce, Kennedy Center, Monte Carlo Hotel du Paris, Saigon Opera House, Thailand National Theatre, Tokyo Pratze, Scientology in LA, ISI Laboratorium Seni Theater, Singapore Victoria Theatre, Taipei National Theatre, Taipei’s Guling St. Theatre, among a long list of notable venues.

Truly, IPAG is a Theater without a theater. Creativity chooses all spaces. It’s not about the space. It’s about intent, talent, and integrity.

IPAG’s 49th engraves how this company has pinned Iligan and its former host, the MSU-Iligan Institute of Technology, in the world map of performance. IPAG stamps the reputation of not only being the Philippines’ most-travelled repertory company but the most-awarded as well, recognized with multiple international and national accolades, among these the highest CCP Gawad, CCP Gador, UMPIL, NCCA Sudi, CCP Pilak, Aliw, ITI Lampara, World Culture, and a host of more international prizes.

This latest apprentice batch of 23 BWPA graduates will have the opportunity to share their nurtured creativity from homegrown talents on more iconic stages soon, as IPAG hits its 50th Year.
