‘Hapoy daw Waig’ premieres

Another compelling performance as only the IPAG staging signature can capture.

“… hinog na hinog na ang IPAG. Hindi basta-basta mababaklas sa isipan ang mga imahe at tunog. kahanga-hanga kung paanong ang mga mata ng mga aktor ay lumilikha ng mga espasyo, distansya, textura at lalim. paano nga ba isasalin sa entablado ang rima at ritmo ng isang epiko? …” — German V. Gervacio, Ph.D, multi-award-winning poet and creative writer

Conversations with expert theatre-makers

As tranSCRIPT moves towards production and the mounting of plays, some of the best practitioners in Philippine Theater will share pieces of advice from their creative process. Our parallel productions will be guided by Glen Mas, Nicholas Pichay, and in a dramaturgy workshop (dates to be later announced) Hobart Savior.

The vast experiences of our guests contribute to what we need to learn about the craft and our audiences:

  1. What is a good play?
  2. What makes a good play?
  3. How do you make a play work?

tranSCRIPT isa playwriting-dramaturgy workshop where original scripts have been submitted to be developed, critiqued, and, consequently, mounted. Our program pairs apprenticing dramaturges with playwrights to allow them the experience of collaboration. Eight pairs will mount eight works-in-progress guided by the IPAG Production Pedagogy.

PHASE 3. PRODUCTION

After Phases One and Two, the playwright-dramaturge tandem mounts productions-in-progress.

After Phases One and Two, the playwright-dramaturge tandem mounts productions-in-progress.

The drafts submitted by the Fellows in Phase 1 were guided by the basics. The second phase tested the enhanced scripts read by actors. The forthcoming third set on the third week of May performs to a live audience.

Conversations with experts on play production continue this month (see related flyers) after the collation of critiques from the readings is presented on April 15 (Sat), 7:00 p.m., live streamed lived via ZOOM and FB.

Selected plays will be produced as part of IPAG’s 46th Season

These programs are all part of a larger plan to enhance our crafts of performance through the establishment of an institution where our evolved pedagogy is put into practice. Consequently, we strengthen our performance practice complemented by a growing community of audiences in our parts.

Maguindanaon warriors pursue AGYU, and turmoil blankets his people. The diwatas empower MUNGAN, Kuyasu’s mother who is too sick to evacuate, to lead the exodus to Nilandangan, their paradise, via the magical boat Sarimbar.

tranSCRIPT workshop moves to final phase

TranSCRIPT 2. READINGS to STAGING
The Playwriting and Dramaturgy Workshop

IPAG has completed Phases One and Two of its playwriting and dramaturgy workshop, the playwright-dramaturge tandem in synch with what the Program expects to be exciting productions-in-progress.

Using the play drafts submitted by the Fellows, the first phase applied the basics, the second a test read of the enhanced scripts, and the forthcoming third, the draft performance to a live audience.

The third phase is set on the third week of May through further enhancements and the lectures of experts on these disciplines (Guest specialists will be later announced). Selected plays will be produced as part of IPAG’s 46th Season

Dramaturgy Fellows have been paired with these apprenticing playwrights. Actors assigned to read the parts will soon act their characters out on stage.

These programs are all part of a larger plan to enhance our crafts of performance through the establishment of an institution where our evolved pedagogy is put into practice. Consequently, we strengthen our performance practice complemented by a growing community of audiences in our parts.
